Pastor Cho's Sermon Outline - Yoido Full Gospel Church - Seoul, Korea
The Chief Gatekeeper
Luke 11:24 ~ 11:26

2002-08-18

Christ taught about the "troubles of an empty house"(Luke 11:24-26). No matter how often an evil spirit is driven out and the house is cleaned and put in order, if the master of the house is not in residence guarding it, the evil spirit brings seven other spirits more wicked than itself and causes even more trouble than before. The house symbolizes man, and the reparation on the house symbolizes repentance and redemption from sin. Without Christ as the master in the house, man simply cannot stand up to Satan.

Adam and his descendants turned their backs on God, becoming servants of Satan. God put Adam in the Garden of Eden to take care of it (Genesis 2:15). Adam failed to guard the Garden of Eden, allowed Satan to enter and was deceived by him. Adam was exiled from the Garden because he gave himself over to Satan (Genesis 3:23,24). Therefore, Adam and his descendants became slaves of Satan and served him as their master. Mankind lost their way to God, experiencing spiritual corruption, psychological corruption, and physical corruption. The identity of mankind was lost (Romans 1:28-32; Ephesians 2:1-3).

Christ redeemed us! His redemption paid for the sins of Adam and all of his descendants. As sinners, we have been saved through faith-a gift of God (Ephesians 2:5-10). Because God gave Christ as our sacrificial lamb, now we have a path to follow to Jesus Christ who redeemed the sins of Adam and all his descendants, driving out sin and evil spirits, cleaning our "houses"(Colossians 2:13-15). Now we must guard and control our hearts and our bodies-God's temples (Proverbs 4:23; 1 Corinthians 6:19,20). No person can serve two masters (Matthew 6:24). We must maintain a good relationship with God, obey His Word, go to church, and cheerfully give our tithes and offerings (Matthew 7:24-27). In Korea's final game in the World Cup, our opponents scored a goal in the first 11 seconds of the game, the shortest time in World Cup history. Why? Korea failed to be gatekeepers. We must become chief gatekeepers, keeping out Satan who will try to return to our houses, to our hearts.

Be a praiseworthy gatekeeper. To do so, let us put on the full armor of God to be strong in Him (Ephesians 6:10-18), trust in the Holy Spirit (John 14:16), pray unceasingly (Romans 8:26; Luke 21:34-36), meditate upon the Word (Revelation 12:11; Hebrews 4:12), and be strong and brave as we confront the enemy (1 Peter 5:8,9; Luke 10:19). Our hearts are like the Garden of Eden. We must make sure that Satan does not enter.

Heavenly Father, Adam and Eve failed to guard the Garden of Eden; they became slaves of Satan. We need You as our Master. Help us to obey Your Word and enjoy Your grace.
