Visibility Zero and God's Secret
Acts 27:9 ~ 27:26

2001-10-21

During times of severe storms or heavy fog, our range of vision becomes visibility zero. Twenty years ago in Australia, I finished a crusade and was scheduled to fly to another part of the country to hold one more crusade. Air traffic control employees were on strike, so I had to make the five-hour flight in a small Cessna plane. We left at night, and a storm arose during the flight. It shook our little plane. The pilot, a deacon from our church, was also shaken because our visibility was zero, a dangerous and painful experience. He had to get the radio frequency for our flight path, so he told me to take over at the controls while I followed his instructions how to fly the little plane. Two hours later, we found a bright light - the airport. Brothers and sisters praying for our safe arrival were waiting for us at the airport as we landed safely.

When Jesus died on the cross, it was a visibility zero experience for the disciples who had been with Him for more than three years. Now they were in great despair. But three days later, Christ rose from the dead (Colossians 2:15; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4). At the point of man's limit, visibility zero, God's miracle was manifested.

The Bible gives examples of great men of faith who had visibility zero experiences. Abraham was totally helpless when Pharaoh took his wife and she became the king's wife. When there was a great plague because of Sarah, the king released her (Genesis 12:19-20). Jacob's hip was broken when he wrestled all night with an angel and then met his brother Esau who hated him. But when Esau saw Jacob limping, a concerned Esau hugged him. God turned Jacob's visibility zero experience into a miracle. Paul was on board ship in a terrible storm with no possibility of survival. God's angel encouraged Paul not to be afraid, that all on board would be spared (Acts 27:21-25).

When we experience visibility zero in our lives, what should we do? We must immediately look to God - not at circumstances (Psalm 103:15-19). We must understand our relationship with God our father; we are His children (John 1:12-13). Would you stay calm if your children were facing visibility zero? No! We must never forget our status in God (1 Peter 2:9; John 10:11-15). When we experience visibility zero, we must call unto Him (Jeremiah 33:3; Mark 11:22-24) and offer Him the sacrifice of praise (Psalm 50:23). God's shining light will break through the fog of visibility zero, and He will manifest His power on our behalf.

Heavenly Father, we all have visibility zero experiences - big and small. As Your children, we cry to You for help, repent of our sins, and praise You. We look to You to turn our darkness into light, our tears into joy, and our despair into hope.
